  • How do I become a member of the club?
Membership to the UNI Baseball Club is open to all. With no varsity collegiate baseball at UNI, our club takes pride in being able to let students play catch, take batting practice, & much more at our outdoor practices at no cost. We are here to provide your baseball fix on campus. There is, however, an official travel roster created every fall before the season starts. This roster is made up of talented club members who will be the only members eligible to participate in weekend games. These players will also owe semesterly dues to cover travel, hotels, field rentals, umpires, etc. Whether you are looking to make the official roster or just enjoy practicing, the best way to get started is by sending us a contact submission (found on "Contact Us" page) expressing your pursuit and a little bit about yourself. You will then be given further information about practice times, eligibility, and other important details.
  • What time of the year are games played?
Games are played in both the fall and spring semesters. We will typically have 3 or 4 weekends of games each semester, beginning in early October and March, respectively.
  • Does it cost to be a member of the club?
Only players who make the official roster are required to pay dues. As a non-profit student-run organization, these dues make up a good portion of our funding. Support is provided by both the Northern Iowa Student Government and UNI Recreation Services, but these numbers fluctuate and, thus, determine dues. Player dues are split up by semester and include all game and travel costs. Here is an estimate of what expenses would look like in a given year: $20 game hat $75 fall dues $75 spring dues
  • Is in-game playing time guaranteed?
Due to the competitve nature of the NCBA season, playing time is determined by a combination of talent and committment and therefore is not guaranteed for everyone on the roster. Among our top priorities are fairness and impartiality. As mentioned earlier, practices are open to all and are a great opportunity for interested players to come get a feel for the competition level.
  • Are there non-playing opportunities within the club?
Every baseball team needs help in the dugout and on the baselines. While the student officers work together with the coaching duties, we're occasionally looking for people to keep stats on the iPad, serve as 1st base coach, etc. Baseball enthusiasts with sound knowledge of the game are preferred. Note that members with these types of positions will also be required to pay player dues because of the travel. Send us a contact submission to learn more!
